Today in class I read Following the Gold. This book is written by Gordon Campbell it is a fiction book.
This book is mostly about Chinese men who go to the goldfields in New Zealand to earn money and send it back to their families in China so that they don't become a poverty stricken family. It is also about racism from Pakeha this culture was jealous and did not want the Chinese to take the Pakehas jobs and Europeans were jealous that the Chinese could fine gold were they couldn't.
In summary this book was mostly about Chinese men went over to New Zealand to earn money for their family.
My favourite part was when the Chinese thought of going out to other parts of the New Zealand and get more jobs like being a shopkeeper or more.
I wonder what you have been reading.
Tēnā koe Rangimarie. Thanks for sharing your review of this book. It's interesting to think that their was racism towards the Chinese so long ago in Aotearoa. Do you think it is happening again today? I'm reading a book called Good Morning Mr Sarra. Its about a man who works in schools supporting the achievement of Aboriginal students in Australia.
