What can acid do?

WALT add detail to our ideas
To be successful we will:
  • Use infographics to gain main ideas
  • Use online dictionaries/thesaurus to learn the meaning of topic words
  • Use further research to find more information
  • Use note-taking skills to make sure we do not copy/paste other people's’ ideas.

Introduction
At Tautoro School we are doing the Water Challenge. The challenge is to switch our sugary drinks to water for 30 days! Why would anyone want to drink water for 30 days? Well, I am going to explain why sugary drinks are harmful to our health. However wins get to chose between $500.00 worth of sports equipment or $500.00 of doing up your water fountains.

Hidden acid
Firstly, sugary drinks are bad because they have hidden acid inside. Acid is really bad. Here's a fact whatever a acidic drink does to an eggshell it can do to your teeth. This happens because eggshells are similar to teeth enamel (enamel covers the outside of your tooth) Acid can actually break your enamel. This is bad; your enamel on your teeth are very important it helps and protects your teeth from the everyday chewing and biting. Acid is hidden in many drinks including Red Bull Zero. How do I know this? Well in our class we done a science experiment and it showed that Red Bull Zero is really bad.

Weight gain
Secondly, sugary drinks and diet drinks can make you obese and make you gain weight. Obesity is a really big problem. Did you know you gain weight from sugary drinks. One can of sugary drink a day can lead to 6.5kgs weight gain a year. This is a big reason why people are obese. Being overweight can lead to: heart disease, kidney disease, type two diabetes, stroke and some cancers. The reason sugary drinks cause obesity is soft drinks have a lot of calories. Did you know that children should only have 1500-2000 calories and adults should only have 2500-3000 and most people that are obese go over this limit because they drinks liters and liters of soft drinks. To add onto this they might eat big macs which have 257 calories in it. This is so outrageous. So switch to water.

Conclusion

In conclusion you should switch to water because soft drinks are really bad they can lead to early death, rotten teeth and obesity.

SLIME TIME!

Good or Bad?

Here I am examing the egg in the Coca Cola

In class we have been doing a science experiment it is about seeing if sugary drinks and diet drinks are harmful. I think they are. What do you think? My favourite part is looking at what the drinks are doing to the eggs.

Here are some of the procedure

Wednesday 15 November 2017

Today we started  our science project.
  1. Firstly Marta and Andy poured Coca Cola  into a 200 mls container.
  2. Next Rangimarie poured the Coca Cola into the container with the egg in it. We used the pH strip to see if the color would change.
  3. We submerged the egg in the drink.
  4. We left it in there for about 1-10 minutes.
  5. We tested Coca Cola. The color turned orange and yellow.
  6. Then we had to take a screenshot of our pH strip.
  7. Before we took a screenshot of our pH strip we compared the colours to the pH scale.
Here is my pH strip

I will observe the changes for a few more days.
