The Disapering Eel.

I was writing an explanation and this was what I had to do to be successful in my explanation writing.

Start with an introduction that has
  • Background information (hooking readers)
  • End with a focus question.
Paragraphs that explain they will have
  • Lead sentences to focus my ideas.
  • Technical langue.
  • Sequence words such as firstly, because,so,as a result ,another reason, in summary.

Conclusion that links back to the focus question.

What do I want to explain? How can we prevent eels from being extinct.

  • Paragraph 1 will be about. What is things are making eels unable to migration.
  • Paragraph 2 will be about. How dams are stopping them
  • Paragraph 3 will be about.  How eels are being fished up is bad.
Intro
Eel’s are slithery slimy and disgusting right well you don't know the whole story, they are endangered. I am going to explain how we can prevent eels from being extinct?

What stops them
Firstly the things that are making eels unable to spawn are dams, causeways, culverts, pollution and fishing. Each and every one of these things do something bad to the longfin eel. These things, dams and fishing,  are two of the main things stopping of migration for eels. But don't worry, people that build these we can still prevent the extinction of eels from happening.

Dams
How are dams stopping eels? Dams have pipe holes that lead to the other side so the eels can get through well not really there are two things in the pipe that stops the eels from getting to the other side these are a turbine and the intake the turbine will chop them up if they get through the turbine they then have to escape the intake an intake sucks up water if they get through this then they are on the other side if they don't then they will be stuck and time will pass and they will die.

Fishing
Lastly eels are being fished up you all might think this isn’t that bad but it is. If a female longfin gets caught her generation will stop because there is no other way to spawn unless she had a daughter of cause but if she didn’t what would happen this is how the eel extinction will begin.

How we can help
We can help by putting pipes through the dams letting the eels swim through. For culverts you could add a hole only for eels this will be very good so the eels extinction will be prevented.
Summary

As a result to this if you build one of these things in the future make sure to think that eels will still get to the ocean to spawn.

Lets Classify Animals.

We are posting this video because we have learnt to classify animals by their attributes. We have classified animals in groups like mammals , reptiles insects and more. What I found hard was learning how to classify the animal into its class . What I liked was screencastifying our work.

Te Reo Moari Masters.

This is our Te Reo Moari presentation W.A.L.T say and write sentences with present past and future tense  we are posting this presentation to share our learning of Te Reo Moari What I found easy was making the sentences, what I found hard was finding the Moari word for a English word. What I liked was learning how to structure it. The Moari tense for future is Ka the Moari tense for past is I the Moari word for present E...ana.

The athletes.

On Thursday we went to Kaikohe East School to participate in the inter-school athletics we were  put into our year groups. I was in the Year 5 grade I really enjoyed shot-put I was very excited that my mum and dad came to watch me. I was  that I came first in shot-put and second in the 200 meter run. We versed Okaihau Primary, West school, East school, Ohaewai school and Christian school. I was also lucky that my dad came a day before to teach me my techniques for shot-put and discs.

Alice goes to Suffix land.

This is our literacy D.L.O we were learning about suffixes, what they are, what they mean and how they change the words meaning. I know I have learn't something because I know about suffix know because I can do suffix homework what I found hard was the technical problems what I found easy was the acting. We worked through some of our lunch times to complete our movie. My next learning will be to try and use better recording like close ups.

The challenge of the week.

This is my strategy work what I found hard was finding the strategy for the answers.

Get your books out were time travelling to 1966.

I am learning to surmise text and to respond to the text.
I know I learnt how to surmise my text because in this book I have said what this is mostly I wrote about the main idea.

Image result for pacific paradise mary campbellLast week we have been reading a book called Pacific Paradise. It is written by Mary Campbell this is a report book.

This book is mainly about. The life cycle of eels and how dams are not helping their migration.

This is the life cycle of an eel. Their parents form eggs, once the eggs are made their parents die. After this they form into a larvae . A larvae is an immature form of an insect or other animal . It will then transform into a transparent eel called a glass eel they then grow until they are ready to spawn this means until they are ready to breed they make their eggs and they die and there generation goes on like that for years. Many people are saying that eels might just get extinct this is because of hydro dams and other reservoirs block the migration of elvers up stream so their generation will stop.

I learnt the life cycle of the book because I didn’t really known much about eels and now I know there are long fin eels short fin eels and that their parents die once they form eggs. I recommend this book to fluent readers and advanced readers this is because some words were very hard and challenging.

Disastrous dusty day.

Here is the recount we done this week. I hope to get ideas on what I did well and how I can write better.

I am learning to write a variety of sentences types (some short, some starting with ‘talking’, some starting with an adverb and try and use figurative language such as simile,  hyperbole, pun or metaphor

I know I learnt something because I can use more figurative language in my story and I can start my sentences off with adverbs.

  • simile
  • hyperbole
  • pun
  • metaphor
  • Other figurative language

A horrible day.
Warning this story might contain harmful words and scary scenes. All I could here was a constant annoying noise flowing through my ears. Leaves being swept off the rocky grey driveway that lay outside my house. It was a freezing frosty Friday morning. The cold was pinching me, I was hoping the sun would come out, I was cleaning my humongous house (it really isn’t that big) from outside to inside. I knew that things were going to go wrong.

I was sweeping the lucky last leaf and then at that moment KAPOOW! Speeding quick wind came flying past and all the leaves scattered on the road “Nooooo” I busted out I dropped the broom , my eyes opened as wide as a plate my jaw dropped to the ground I couldn’t believe blueberry it well actually, I did I knew that something was going to go wrong. I sucked it in and swept the whole road, again. Just as I was walking into my house I could see shadows lurking around me.I was so so so scared. Do you know that feeling? I shot into my house shut the door SLAM! I gasped and released my air.

BOOM! BANG! I had seen more things worse than the shadows. I had approached the house I felt like I was in a horror movie. Hours later I arrived at my room, I was terrified of my room  I couldn’t stand the feeling that I had never cleaned it before. I started off pretty good everything was in ship shape I was just about to walk out and then BAM! Cautiously I eyed my closet I was so afraid not knowing what was inside  Thump thump! What's in there? Will I live? I'm scared I was a shaking earthquake. Do you know what I mean? I was about to fire myself but shaking my hand I reached my extremely long arm I could hear monsters witches even saying “open me open me” so I did, nothing could go wrong right, I thought to myself I opened the closet to see that nothing bad was in there that was the cleanest place in my room all my sweat ran away my head was as dry as the desert. I walked into the cider room and watch tv.

I felt like a NZ soldier that won war. I was relieved that I completed my mission but I still had some suspicion about those shadows earlier this morning. I do wish I had powers so that I could rewind time and I would of never have seen what I did see. Maybe in the future I will be a cleaner who knows.

The amazing animals.

I am learning to use assonance in my poems about animals. Assonance means in poetry, the repetition of the sound of a vowel or diphthong in non rhyming stressed syllables near enough to each other for the echo to be visible
I know that I have learnt something because I know how to make my own poems with assonance in them.
I found making the poems were hard I liked that even though it was hard I still completed it.

Chinese is so fun.

My goal reflection.

Do you want to read my story?

It was a nervous Thursday for me it was our kapa haka cultural festival I was feeling superb but at the same time feeling scared being certain that I would muck up for sure.

When we arrived at the kapa haka it was our turn we all rushed in the lights were punching my eyes. The curtains opened my heart beated so fast that I almost was going to faint. There were a million of people on the chairs.

The commands were yelled out “HOPE KI RARO” “HOPE KI RARO HOPE” we started off with a himene te matua. We got into action we were singing the roof off we were louder than a microphone.  We arrived at the rakau I grabbed my rakau and sat down on the freezing frosty floor. I felt butterflies in my stomach I could hear the crowd going wild we started the song my eyes were in shock I had done it, all of that worry for nothing  we came to the last song then turned to walk of the stage and just at that second kuia stood to their feet and mihi to us we sang te poi back to them and then walked off the stage.

I felt so proud of myself and I thought that that this kapa haka was my best one in years. I also liked performing with my whanau and friends.

Do you want to read a book review.

Aug 18, 2016 11:55:02 AM.jpg
Today in class I read Following the Gold. This book is written by Gordon Campbell it is a fiction book.

This book is mostly about Chinese men who go to the goldfields in New Zealand to earn money and send it back to their families in China so that they don't become a poverty stricken family. It is also about racism from Pakeha this culture was jealous and did not want the Chinese to take the Pakehas jobs and Europeans were jealous that the Chinese could fine gold were they couldn't.

In summary this book was mostly about Chinese men went over to New Zealand to earn money for their family.

My favourite part was when the Chinese thought of going out to other parts of the New Zealand and get more jobs like being a shopkeeper or more.

I wonder what you have been reading.

Do you want a challenge?

Do you read?

Today in class we all read Bok Choy. This book is written by Paul Mason. It is a non-fiction book but it is based on fiction events.

This book is mostly about a little boy named Jacob and a gold miner named Ah Sum. The setting is in Otago and it was 1865 on the gold mines on New Gold Mountain. It is a racisim story. The two racist are Mrs Bishop and her son William they are very mean to Ah Sum. Mrs Bishop thinks that Chinese are so desperate for money that they would even sell off their family. A lot of the pakeha made the Chinese live on the hills and the pakeha can live on the flat parts  with flash built houses.

My favorite part was when Jacobs mother said how can I thank you and Ah Sum just smiled and then the mother said “I insisted you come to my house tomorrow. What have you been reading in class?

We believe that we need cameras in our school. Would you like your stuff getting stolen and your kid is not using our hoe, and nothing happening about it? Do you agree or disagree?

We think that we need cameras in our school is because we want our school to be free of theft..  Aren't you just angry when your stuff  is stolen don't you just want to catch the thief. When kids come to school they will know that there are cameras monitoring what is happening in the school. For example someone could go to the hooks, take one of the bags and steal stuff out of there bag. Would you want that happening to your children/child.

Another reason why we think that we should have cameras in our school is because kids will not be breaking our Hoe Tikanga . This is because we have an awesome tikanga and the kids who are breaking these tikanga will be caught on camera this is so easier to find the thief. Added to this we should get cameras because kids will behave better and treat others in kinder ways. And for those who do the right thing they will always be rewarded.

In Summary,  I believe that we need cameras in our school.
Purely for security purposes and to keep everyone safe.
Surely everyone would want a school that is safe and secure.Let's step up and  make our school the best, number one in New Zealand Surely everyone would want a school that is safe and secure

Lets Bring cameras to our school!
Our next steps are: To be independent at using the correct strucutre for persuasive. Have well organised paragraphs with lead sentences and supporting detail. We will also learn about emotive words and phrases and how to use them to support our argument.

Te Reo master.

Te Reo masters.

Silver Fern future.

I am learning to add figurative language to my work and synonyms for said to match my mood.
“Wake up wake up come on, it's Saturday it’s Netball today let's get ready” I growled to my mum and dad. “Yes yes” My mum and dad sluggishly replied. Just that second I went Swoosh! I was out of that room like lighting I could feel the wind picking up my speed, I had gone into my room and gotten my uniform on and put my shoes on. It was like I was ready in seconds. Broom! I flashed into my mum and dad’s room they were slugs just getting out of bed “come on we're going to be late” I angrily said. I went and got all the netball gear ready and then put it in the car. Slam! went the door. I ran all the way to my mum’s room. The bed was literally tidy and my dad was getting ready. My mum was just getting out of the shower, maybe I was the slug after all.  A few minutes later we were all set and ready to set off to the netball courts.

When we had arrived there the cold weather begun to numb my body, and the courts were as slippery as a snake. We walked to find our team and my eyes alarmed off at the sight of our bright yellow straps on our uniform. “Here they are!” I shouted to my mum and dad, we all ran over like cheetahs in a race. The whole team was there we were definitely late. We went over to court seven to warm up. We were warming up by running down the court and we also played a game where you had to skip and catch the ball. Kaya was the winner overall, she was like a soldier preparing for war she was focused and ready for action.

A few more minutes later we went to court five to get ready for our game, the T-Road Diamonds coach checked our nails a lot of the children had that were too long . The bell rang it was time for our game my mum was getting seven of us bibs, the position C was Laviniah, GD was me, GA was Charlie, WD was Tuishaly, WA was Sheyani, GS was Te hana and GK was Kohl-lee. I was like an engine extremely excited to drive for that ball. A few seconds after that the umpire whistle went off the game began. I went  Boom! I stretched as high as the sky tower and caught an intercept. I passed it back to my teammates and we scored a goal!.

“Go Go Go!!!”  all I could hear was “Go Go Go!!!” it was being cheered from the sidelines. It was now the fourth quarter the sun was smiling down on us. Even though we were losing, we were all having a blast. I was cheering them on saying “come on guys we can do it.” I could see a slight change in their attitude they were all trying so hard. I I wondered if I would still love Netball as much as I do now. Then at the final seconds Ring! Ring! the bell went off. I went on the court and told my teammates they had an awesome game. We all gave each other a high five then shook the other team’s hands. 1-6 to them, the score was average, it could've been better.

My favorite part of it all was when my  mum announced “the two (players of the day) are Heaven and Laviniah” I went up to them, “nice job guys you definitely deserved this” I would've of voted for them as well, Heaven achieved amazing intercepts and laviniah was incredible even though she was way shorter than West School.

I had an amazing Saturday and loved the good game that we all participated in. In the future I hope to be a Silver fern.

Do you like listening to things? then listen to my screencatify.

If you love reading then read my book review.

My Recent Reading
This week I read The Maori Pioneer Battalion it is a non-fiction report. The author of this book is Monty Soutar. This book report is a WW1 report. The book is manly about Maori men trying to become equal with the pakeha to show them how strong they are and to fight beside them on the battlefields instead of digging trenches and making supply depots.

My favorite part in the report is when the soldiers were ordered to attack Turkish trenches and they took them down one by one and people at the time were actually surprised that the wanted to be soldiers and when they were allowed to go in war. When they came back they were praised by everyone because they were so brave and took down the Turkish fighters just like that.

My favorite part in the report is Chapter one.
It is about two grandchildren that always go to their grandparents house on Saturday and Sunday. But one day mr Proper gets an interesting mail.He looks at mrs Proper then he says to Jack and Daisy how about you two came here for the whole week. They look at each other in suspense and are very curious of what is in the mail.

This is my writing assessment. I have worked on improving it's punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary.

Warning some time in this story there will be something you should not let your children read. On an amazing sunny day my nan was coming to pick me up to go to the Kaikohe East gala. I was so excited. My mum said to me “ pack you some clothes you might go to the farm.” A little while later my nan arrived I hopped in the car and shut the door slam!. I I was squashed, I was a tuna in a can.

We had arrived at the gala. My nan and I went to get some tickets and three green bracelets that could allow you to ride on any game for free. One was for Andy one was for Konrad and one was for me.

The first game we went on was bumper balls.  I was so excited. We all had to hop in a corner and run to the middle and boll other people over and each other, instantly I boiled them over.  It was awesome. We bumped into  each other .We were elephants in a stampede. When it had been five minutes we had to hop out.

Next we went to the bouncy castle I was extremely excited. We were the flash. It was as freaky as the sky tower. I was shaking like an earthquake was happening. You know that feeling? (I really wanted to go down straight away.) But I was hopping Konrad and Andy didn't find out.

Later on we went on the bumper cars. It was fantastic.  But also scary I didn't want to be shamed. You know what I mean? .

A few minutes later we went to get a drink. I had coke Andy had sprite and Konrad had LmP. When I opened the lid the fizzi went in my face. Like little baby kangaroos were jumping in my face.  But it was so refreshing.

Later we had to leave I wished that it could never end. I thought my day was amazing.I loved my day so much like my dad.
